We've discussed this problem before and our technical folk are looking into
it. If I had to bet I would guess that you are running Windows NT. That's
the only platform we've heard of that folk have trouble with. Since I do
not run NT ('98 on one PC and 2000 on another) I can't help solve the
problem.
If anyone out there is running NT and CAN get to the ftp site, maybe you
know of some secret or setting and can tell the rest of the world!
Meanwhile, Susan, if you are not running NT please tell me exactly what you
are running (send me a personal email please) and I will investigate
further. Our technical staff are being copied on this note but I know they
continue to look into the problem (they, BTW, use NT and have not had a
problem - I am convinced there's some sort of weird and bizarre setting . .
.)
THANKS CATHERINE! As I type this note I see that you found the trick!
Let's hope it works for EVERYBODY!

Subject: [FUNDSVCS] Accessing John's ftp site
Ok, I give up. How does one access John's ftp site? I can find
www.adr.duke.edu with no problem, but when I click on "Advancement Services
ftp site" I can't get in. All I get is a little flashlight icon that waves
around like it is looking for something (but never finds it) or I get an
error message saying I am not an authorized user (or something similar). Am
I doing something wrong? Do I need a password or special authorization to
get in? John frequently references his site with regard to pertinent IRS
regs that I would like to take a look at, but I'm getting very frustrated.
I am posting to the whole list in case others are having similar problems
and would like to know the answer. Seems like it should be easy, but I'm
obviously missing something.
Thanks
susan
