\ Alan, I'm sure our fearless leader John will have the most
\ precise info, but in my one experience with a raffle, none
\ of the money was counted as gifts regardless of where it
\ came from. To the best of my knowledge, by linking the
\ game of chance to the money there is no donative intent
\ because the money was raised by offering the people who
\ bought the tickets an opportunity to win something.
I'd thought about that. Certainly the purchase of the raffle
tickets is not tax deductible to the purchaser. But if the
proceeds belong to the alumni association, and the alumni
association decides to make a charitable contribution with their
money, then that could presumably be a charitable gift, couldn't
it?
Anyway, that's one of the related questions.
Hmmm. I wonder whose name is on the legal paperwork to hold the
raffle.
