We are a Banner user and recently had a change - moving a major from one
college to another college within the university. The question was raised
on how to handle the coding in Banner for alumni in that major and
While our alumni records are not the official records of the university -
they do reflect a mirror image of the registrar's degree information. They
would never change the college on the registrar's system. Some folks
believe we should not interfere with the integrity of that data and
possibly causing further confusion among the alumni.
Others suggest that when a major moves from one college to another....ALL
Alumni should move to the new college in the alumni system.
The colleges each have a newsletter - and the former college would never
mention or appeal to the former major - since it now sits in a new college
(as per the Dean).
Another suggestion was to allow the alumni to determine the college that
they would like to be associated with. . .
Assuming this has occurred elsewhere - how have you handled this in your
alumni system for mailings, solictations, communications, reporting, etc.?
Any suggestions would be welcome as there are some staff that believe
the "common practice" among other institutuions would be to move the alumni
to the new college. Thank you.
